President, EIIL Honorary Director General of the EU Commission In 1955 Albert Strub graduated in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany and then moved to the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (France) for teaching Electronics and Nuclear Instrumentation. In parallel, he undertook research work on microwaves and ferromagnetism at the Grenoble Faculté des Sciences. In 1959 he entered the EURATOM branch of the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels (Belgium), as a member of a task force preparing the setting up of the EU Joint Research Centers. Between 1960 and 1967, Dr. Strub acted as a researcher and a project manager in the EU Research Center of Ispra (Italy) and then moved to the EU Research Center of Petten (Netherlands), as head of the technical and financial services. In 1973, Dr. Strub returned to the EU Headquarters in Brussels. After a short stay in the office of an EU Commissioner, he was appointed Scientific Assistant to the Director General for Science, Research and Development (DG XII). In this capacity he was involved in the conception of the EU’s science policy. He then launched and directed the EU “Non-nuclear Energy R&D Programmes” . From 1987 to 1994 Dr. Strub moved to Luxemburg as Director responsible for the exploitation of the results of the EU’s R&D activities (VALUE Programme) and for the promotion of the innovation capacity and of transnational technology transfer between enterprises (SPRINT Programme). At the end of 1994 he retired from the EU Commission. Dr. Strub owns several patents and has published many articles and contributions (as an author or as an editor) to books. He is Honorary Director General of the EU Commission, member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York), of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Germany), of VDI (Germany) and honorary member of EVCA (European Venture Capital Association, Brussels). He was President of EUTAC S.A., Brussels (1995 – 2002) and worked as senior consultant for several companies. (12/05) |
